Through a grant from the District’s Department of Energy and the Environment, a research team from the University of the District of Columbia has installed an innovative green stormwater infrastructure at the UDC Bertie Backus Campus in Ward 5.
As part of this effort, a compacted turf lawn was converted to a conservation landscape area using Bloom’s Woody Blend to support a native plant habitat and reduce stormwater runoff. “It looks spectacular. There is noticeable difference with the trees growing in Bloom,” says Harris Trobman, Project Specialist for Green Infrastructure for the UDC’s Center for Sustainable Development and Resilience.
The team will be monitoring the environmental benefits of the project over the next year; stay tuned for more updates!
