The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge project is not only the largest construction project in DC history, it’s also Bloom’s largest project to date. The bridge’s new design included significant landscaping and turf establishment to beautify the area and green up new paths for those walking and biking across the bridge, which is where Bloom came in.

The DC Department of Transportation spec called for a significant increase in organic matter to bring the existing topsoil to a quality suitable for sustainable plant growth. Landscape architects and soil scientists came together to find an optimal blend that included Bloom, whose high nutrient content also provided the soil with the necessary nutrients to establish and maintain a healthy soil profile that will improve drought resistance, disease resistance, soil structure and water holding capacity.

Stay tuned for more photos soon as the recently seeded wildflowers and other native plants fill in the landscape with the help of Bloom!
