This week, Bloom teamed up with DC Water for our annual honey harvest from the beehives at Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant. The hives produced around 200 pounds of honey and our staff was abuzz with excitement.

Since 2015, through a partnership with the DC Beekeepers Alliance, we have been housing “orphaned” bees at Blue Plains. When bees end up where they shouldn’t, they are relocated to more suitable areas, like the Blue Plains hives. The bee orphanage continues to be strong and healthy and has grown to 17 hives now. Fun fact: Our honey has won best tasting honey at the DC State Fair! Watch this video to learn more about the beekeeping operation.
