H&S Farms in Hughesville, Maryland, is not only Bloom’s longest-standing customer – it’s also the largest. While most of the farm’s 1,400 acres is dedicated to commodity crops like corn and soybeans, around 40 acres are brimming with beautiful pumpkins this time of year, destined for corn mazes and fall festivals all over the state.

“Pumpkins like organic nitrogen, and that’s one of the reasons I sought out Bloom in the first place. I use it on our pumpkin fields as regularly as our nutrient management plan will allow,” said Steve Walter, who runs the farm with his son Nicholas and has farmed in Charles County for nearly 50 years. “Bloom doesn’t leach out into the water like chemical fertilizers, and the organic matter it contains has enriched my soil health, increased my yields and decreased my need for fertilizers, all leading to upwards of 30% savings in my input costs,” he added.

Montpelier Farms carries H&S Farms’ pumpkins at their fall festival in Upper Marlboro. The farm also exclusively supplies Bloom retailer Patuxent Nursery in Bowie with all of their pumpkins. See more of H&S Farms’ pumpkins, from the fields to the shelves, on our Instagram.
